Job Description
Anchor Center for Blind Children is seeking a full-time Speech Language Pathologist to join our center-based Preschool and Infant/Toddler programs. Salary Range $40-50k+ depending on experience. Salary is for a 38 week school year.
Purpose of Position
The Speech/Language Pathologist works as a member of the transdisciplinary team to meet the developmental and educational goals of all children served by Anchor Center for Blind Children (ages birth-5). Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: working closely with classroom teaching team, providing push-in services to support communication in a preschool classroom setting; Support team in using assistive technology to enable young children with disabilities to participate as independently as possible in play and classroom learning activities, including but not limited to AAC devices; Lead parent/child centers targeting feeding, communication, and assistive technology use; Provide evaluation in a transdisciplinary team setting covering the areas of communication and oral-motor development. Provide recommendations and reports that will be useful for families and agencies; Assist parents, other caregivers, staff members, and other educators with information regarding individual children’s levels of communication and strategies for enhancing optimal development and growth; Provide assistance to children who could benefit from development of oral-motor and mealtime skills as well as strategies for family carryover at home; Provide functional group therapy activities to enhance each child’s communication skills; Participate in program development; Comply with HIPAA and other standards regarding confidentiality.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Consult with outside therapists and service providers about communication and/or feeding goals and strategies; Help manage volunteers as needed; Mentor visiting University students as needed; Assist in identifying resources for outside services such as augmentative communication; Attend scheduled staff, team, and committee meetings; Attend fundraising events as desired and as possible; Meet at least annually with team to establish goals and review past activities.
Qualifications
Colorado DORA License; Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association; Related teaching certificate preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong background in child development with emphasis on early childhood; Minimum of five years experience in pediatric therapy including ages birth to five; Prefer experience with Transdisciplinary Play-based Assessments and other assessment techniques appropriate for use with young children with vision loss; background and experience in feeding/swallowing/oral-motor skills; Prefer training/experience in the education of children with dual sensory loss; Experience in working with young children who have multiple challenges including vision impairment; Prefer experience with assistive technology appropriate for use with young children with vision impairment; Strong written and spoken communication skills; Prefer familiarity with individual guidelines for working with outside educational and other community agencies.
Working Environment
Educational/classroom environment including children with limited or no vision and frequent parent/family visits.
Physical Recommendations
Be able to lift up to 50 pounds; Be able to participate in floor time and maneuver equipment/materials (with assistance if necessary for safety purposes) for use in programming.
