Abstract:
Supervision in speech-language pathology demands innovative approaches that address the complex challenges facing both mentors and mentees. This session provides a comprehensive framework for transforming supervisory relationships through strategic, evidence-based interventions. Participants will explore the nuanced landscape of professional development, focusing on imposter syndrome and power dynamics, responsive guidance techniques, and inclusive professional frameworks. Participants will gain practical, data-driven tools to build confidence, mitigate stress, and enhance clinical leadership across diverse practice settings.

Time-Ordered Agenda:

  • (5 minutes) – Introduction, welcome and overview of session objectives brief introduction of the presenter.
  • (10 minutes) - Understanding imposter syndrome and power dynamics definition and impact on supervisors and supervisees Strategies for recognizing and addressing power dynamics and imposter feelings.
  • (10 minutes) - Transformative supervisory techniques overview of practical techniques Discussion on structured feedback mechanisms and supportive framework coaching.
  • (10 minutes) - Designing inclusive supervision frameworks introduction to the menu of strategies for personalized frameworks.
  • (10 minutes) - Guidance on curating inclusive supervision models that promotes cultural competence interactive activity.
  • (10 minutes) - Participants begin designing their own supervision frameworks using the provided menu.
  • (5 minutes) - Conclusion and key takeaways recap of key points discussed. Encouragement to implement learned strategies in practice.
  • (30 minutes) - Live Q&A

Presenter Information
Sharon Rice, MS, CCC-SLP, has more than 20 years of experience in clinical practice and business. She specializes in AI training, supervision and burnout care training. A repeat speaker at state and national conventions and published ASHA Leader author, she empowers clinicians with innovative tools to build resilience, navigate complex career landscapes, and lead with confidence.
