Title - All Facts, No Printer: How to Support Generation Z Clinicians from a Trauma-Informed Lens
Presenters: Rachel Archambault, MA CCC-SLP and R.J. Risueño, MS CCC-SLP
Abstract: Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), a recommended practice for clinical use, recognizes an individual’s life experiences in order to provide effective healthcare (Trauma-Informed Care Implementation Resource Center, 2022). Supervisors can also benefit from TIC when working with their supervisees, the most recent graduates being in Generation Z, in order to support their growth as clinicians. This session will provide a background on TIC, why it is important to use with supervisees and as an introspection tool and ways that supervisors can ensure that they are mentoring from a trauma-informed lens.
Learner Outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
- Identify the pillars of trauma-informed care and how they fit in the role of a supervisor position
- Explain how to identify when supervisors and supervisees might be dysregulated and how to co-regulate
- Implement supervisor language changes to help reduce possible harm, trauma and retraumatization.
