Job Description

DEPARTMENT: Child Development (Special Needs)
RESPONSIBLE TO: Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Lead
HOURS: Full Time, Part Year
FLSA CLASSIFICATION/STATUS: Exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Implements speech therapy services in an inclusive pre-school setting which includes structured assessments, treatment, and documentation of children.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology
  • Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) or Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC)
  • Must possess or obtain (within 6 months of hire date) a Colorado Department of Education (CDE Special Services Provider Certificate)
  • Case management experience
  • Ability to work successfully with low-income families, community groups, and staff
  • Ability to successfully coordinate and manage multiple priorities
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination, TB test, drug test (including marijuana), and background check in accordance with the Office of Head Start Performance Standards and Childcare Licensing. (Physical examination and TB test thereafter as required).
  • Completion of annual child abuse and standard precautions training, maintained as required.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and if using a personal vehicle must maintain minimum liability insurance as determined by the State of Colorado.
  • Preferred: Pediatric experience within an educational program

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides screenings and/or evaluations for each child as appropriate, to determine that child’s need for speech/language therapy if the interagency Child Find cannot provide the service.
  2. As determined by the IEP, a written treatment plan for each child diagnosed as needing speech/language services shall be provided. The plan shall include measurable goals and objectives and meet the school district IEP.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  1. Participates and facilitates (as needed) in meetings, annual reviews, and kindergarten transition meetings for the purpose of providing information and updating goals.
  2. Serve as case manager for IEPs, including reviewing and revising reports and documentation from Ots, and PTs for IEP reports and providing oversight to all services a student receives per the IEP, if there is no ECSE
  3. Provide differentiated instruction in inclusive classrooms, home-based services, and family daycare settings.
  4. Utilize and implement low and high tech AAC devices/systems for communication.
  5. Involves parents in planning and implementing therapy services by contacting parents by telephone, in writing or in person. Provides parents with a schedule of times when the therapist will be in the classroom.
  6. Consults with CPCD Teachers to coordinate activities for carryover of therapy services in the classroom. Obtain teacher input regarding student progress.
  7. Maintains records of; children on caseload, treatment provided, dates of service and meetings attended, hours spent each week per child on therapy services, objectives worked on during each session, contacts made by the therapist with parents and CPCD staff.
  8. Provides parent/staff training and participates in CPCD staff meetings or work groups.
  9. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of privileged and personal information of children families, and staff.

General Educational Development:

Reasoning: Apply principles of logical and/or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret a variety of instructions in written, mathematical or verbal form. Deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Language Development:
Reading: Read manuals, forms, books, scientific and professional journals, abstracts, and other documents written in the English language.
Writing: Write letters, memorandums, business reports, manuals, and other documents in the English language.
Speaking: Conversant in the English language in the theory, principles, and methods of effective and persuasive speaking, discussion, and debate.
Mathematical: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Perform the four operations with like common and decimal fractions. Compute ratio, rate, and percent. Draw and interpret graphs as needed. Perform arithmetic operations involving all American monetary units.
Technology: Use basic office equipment such as telephone, fax machine, copy machine, printer, calculator, etc. Ability to use electronic or computer based systems to record work time and other work information. Ability to use computer hardware and software to complete job tasks including word processing, spreadsheets, file management, data entry, & Windows Explorer.
