Mandatory CC Requirements for Speech-Language Pathologists

Continuing Professional Competency Requirements for Speech-Language Pathologists

In order to practice speech-language pathology in Colorado, state law requires you to maintain and demonstrate continuing professional competency requirements (CC requirements) for your speech-language pathology certification. CC requirements must be completed each renewal period before renewing a certificate. The next expiration date is November 30, 2016.

When renewing your certificate, you must attest to how you complied with CC requirements for the renewal period (December 1, 2015 through November 30, 2016). CC requirements can be met by:

  • the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program;
  • Deemed Status; OR
  • a Military Exemption.

Brief Overview of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program

  1. Complete the Reflective Self-Assessment Tool (RSAT) form. From the results of this self-assessment, create one to four learning goals.
  2. Complete 10 Professional Development Activities (PDA) in the required categories to achieve your learning goals. No more than five hours will be credited in any one category, except Coursework. There are eight categories in which PDA can be accrued. Review program requirements to understand how to accrue your PDA. PDA must be completed within the renewal period – December 1, 2015 through November 30, 2016 (or when you renew your certificate).

Before renewing your certificate, finalize your Learning Plan and document the completion of PDA. Retain your documentation as described; audits of compliance will be conducted after the renewal.
