Abstract: Practitioners are tasked with staying current on technical skills. Yet, technical skills are not delivered in a vacuum; assessment and intervention practices are transmitted through interpersonal relationships. Listening is a key element of effective communication between clients and clinicians. In this webinar, we explore levels of listening in clinical encounters. Attendees appraise their own listening habits and consider how purposeful listening routines may bolster therapeutic outcomes.

Presenter Information:

Jessica Rossi-Katz, PhD, CCC-A, is a professor and inaugural chair of the department of speech, language, hearing sciences and founding director of speech-language pathology graduate program at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She holds a masters and doctorate in Audiology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a bachelors in communication disorders from the University of New Hampshire. Originally trained in hearing processes, listening to diverse constituents is now one of the most prominent features of her work.
